Designer Tom Ford, who was a fashion trendsetter for years with Gucci, is breaking a taboo in the realm of advertising by featuring full-frontal
male nudity in an ad for his new Yves Saint Laurent men's fragrance. The black-and-white print campaign for the M7 fragrance features a
reclining model, Samuel de Cubber, who is also a former martial arts champion, according to Reuters. The ad began appearing in a variety of
fashion magazines, mostly in Europe. "Perfume is worn on the skin, so why hide the body?" Ford said in a statement. "The M7 campaign is really
pure, it's a very academic nude." Some mainstream publishers, however, will feature a cropped version of the ad. A representative of Genre,
a gay men's lifestyle monthly magazine that features fashion editorial, said he would publish the ad if given the chance. "Of course I would
run the ad," said Doug Shingleton, associate publisher of Genre, noting that the magazine regularly features artistic nude photography.
"The photo is artistic, not gratuitous."
